This course examines the complex role of instructional leadership, which enables the administrator to link the work of leadership and learning to all members of the school community and develop learning communities.  Essentially, while school leaders do pursue management strategies, the instructional leader is called to move beyond the technical elements of school management and work collaboratively to enhance school effectiveness by focusing on student learning and student achievement through supporting the work of teachers and helping teachers further develop their craft. The course will blend theoretical frameworks with practical case studies and the realities of classroom life in participants’ schools.  Students will engage in reflection on actual professional dilemmas as a key integrative outcome of the course.
