THE SAT/PSAT Preparatory Course
PSAT PREPARATION COURSE
Sophomores in high school may take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, commonly referred to as the PSAT test. As the name suggests, this is a test designed to measure the same sorts of skills as, and prepare students for, the SAT test which is given to high school juniors. Everyone who has a chance to take the PSAT should certainly take advantage of it. Not only does it give your valuable practice for the SAT, by revealing what areas you may need to work on. The PSAT test is a challenging test, which is mostly multiple choice. There is no essay required, and you’re allowed to bring a calculator. The test takes a little over two hours, and covers three areas: Critical Reading is 48 questions which are focused on both critical reading skills and sentence completion exercises. Math contains 28 multiple choice and 10 grid in questions testing your skills in basic math, algebra, geometry, data analysis, measurement, and statistics and probability. Writing Skills is 39 questions looking for your skills at identifying errors in written materials, and your skill at improving both sentences and paragraphs.SAT PREPARATION COURSE
Every year, over two million students take the SAT Reasoning Test, commonly called just the SAT. Colleges and universities rely on it as an accurate predictor of how well a student will do at college level academics. The SAT test plays a huge part in helping to determine what college millions of people will attend, and what kind of future they’ll have. If there were ever a test you need to do well on, it’s the SAT test. The SAT covers topics such as Algebra II and writing (essay) where students will have the opportunity to demonstate how they de-velop, organize and express their thoughts. In this workshop students will learn:
- how to approach the test
- test-taking strategies
- pacing techniques
- how the test is scored
- reading comprehension skills
- techniques for improving vocabulary
- what the essay section is assessing
- basic grammar needed for success
- math problem–solving strategies
Students will master content, take SAT practice tests and be confident and prepared for test day. A follow-up homework assignment must be completed for each session.
